To fulfill the goal of localized medical care at the Penghu Branch of the Tri-Service General Hospital (TSGH), the Ministry of National Defense has actively advanced surgical capabilities in remote areas. Since 2022, under the leadership of Lieutenant General Tsai Chien-Sung, Director-General of the Medical Affairs Bureau (Surgeon General of Defense), the TSGH cardiac surgery team successfully performed the first-ever open-heart surgery in Taiwan’s outlying islands. This milestone marked the beginning of efforts to normalize such advanced procedures locally.
As of March 2025, six open-heart surgeries have been successfully completed. Each operation represents the unwavering dedication of the TSGH medical team to safeguarding the precious lives of Penghu residents. It is our belief that the Penghu Branch of TSGH will continue to meet the medical needs of the local population and fulfill the public's expectations and hopes for high-quality, accessible healthcare.
