The Acute Psychiatric Ward focuses on the treatment of acute short-term conditions, with the goal of rapidly alleviating symptoms and stabilizing the patient's condition, enabling them to transfer to a unit for medium- to long-term care or reintegrate with community where the patient came from. The majority of patients treated in the Acute Psychiatric Ward at the Tri-Service General Hospital (TSGH) are those with depression. The ward employs the Anti-Blue nursing care model for depression patients and works closely with the interdisciplinary medical team. The Department of Psychiatry utilizes advanced artificial intelligence software for brainwave stress detection to assist in diagnosing moderate to severe depression. Based on individual treatment needs, therapies such as medication, electroconvulsive therapy, and transcranial micro-current stimulation are provided.
In addition, the nursing team provides comprehensive acute psychiatric care for depression patients through detailed nursing assessments, medication guidance, environmental adjustments, group therapy, art therapy, and interdisciplinary collaborative care. This holistic approach ensures that patients and their families receive timely and effective support when facing mental health challenges. Through the team's active efforts and the implementation of the "Anti-Blue~ Battle Against Depression - Comprehensive Care for Depression Patients" measures, there has been a significant reduction in depression assessment scores. Furthermore, the rates of falling accidents and self-harm incidents are lower as compared to those in national and Asian psychiatric care units, highlighting the excellent quality of psychiatric care at TSGH. As a result, the Taiwan’s one and only military medical center was honored with the 2024 Nursing Specialty Group SNQ National Quality Mark for Nursing Care Services.
