To promote healthcare clinician-patient communication, enhance medical quality, and improve patient safety, TSGH has actively participated in the National Healthcare Quality Award (NHQA) competition organized by the Development Center for Healthcare over the years. In addition to sharing our own experiences and initiatives, TSGH staffs also engage in mutual exchanges and learning with various institutions across Taiwan, working together to enhance the well-being of patients who come to our hospital.
On January 15, 2024, the Hospital Accreditation and Healthcare Quality Promotion Association held the 25th National Healthcare Quality Award (NHQA) ceremony at the International Conference Center of Chang Rong-Fa Foundation. TSGH delegation, led by Deputy Superintendent Chen Deng-Wei and comprised of key representatives from the Quality Management Center (Director Chen Si-Zhou), Department of Nuclear Medicine (Director Qiu Chuang-Xin), Nursing Department (Director Chen Mei-Rong), Evidence-Based Medicine Center, Emergency Department, and Anesthesiology Department attended the event accompanied.
In this competition, TSGH was awarded 1 Gold Award, 1 Silver Award, 1 Bronze Award, and 2 Honorable Mentions. The details of the awards are as follows:
1. Gold Award in Outstanding Medical Category
The Department of Nuclear Medicine conducts annual radiation injury medical management exercise and has established radioisotope therapy to enhance medical quality and radiation safety. The department has also engaged in numerous exchanges with domestic and international radiation injury-related organizations to continuously improve radiation disaster management capabilities, earning recognition from the review committee with this Gold Award.
2. Silver Award in Simulated Scenario Category
A team consisting of Dr. Wu Cheng-En and Dr. Hsiung Hsing-Bang from the Department of Emergency Medicine, Nurse Chen Si-Ying from Neihu main branch Emergency Department, Head Nurse Tsai Chi-Jen from Ward 35, and Deputy Head Nurse Li Jing-Ni from the Neurosurgical Intensive Care Center worked together to handle unexpected emergency rescue situations. Their immediate response, emergency procedures, and post-event reviews for improvement were successfully completed in a comprehensive emergency treatment process, earning the Silver Award.
3. Bronze Award in Theme Improvement Group
The Nursing Department, Ward 65 focused their effort on the theme of reducing postoperative pain scores of ≥4 for patients undergoing liver and gastrointestinal laparoscopic surgeries. Through the development of a pain management nursing guide and the innovative design of an ice-pack abdominal binder, they effectively reduced patients' pain levels, earning the Bronze Award.
4. Honorable Mention in Theme Improvement Group
The Anesthesiology Department focused their effort on the theme of reducing moderate anxiety in patients undergoing general anesthesia by producing an anesthesia education video and enhancing the nursing staff's clinical care capability. This approach led to a significant reduction in patients' anxiety levels to 21%, effectively alleviating patient emotion stress and earning the Honorable Mention.
5. Honorable Mention in Evidence-Based Medicine Literature Verification Clinical Group
A team led by Dr. Lai Yi-Xiang of Surgical Department, Deputy Head Nurse Fu Yu-Xuan, and Nurse Li Wei-Ping from MICU2 focused their effort on optimizing nursing care and used journal literature data to propose effective care guidelines, earning the Honorable Mention.
The results of this competition demonstrate TSGH staffs’ ongoing commitment to and efforts in enhancing medical quality. TSGH will continue to promote quality improvement, implement integrated medical services, and strengthen healthcare for military and civilian stakeholder entrusted to us.
